“Black-capped
chickadees
are endearing and familiar little birds. They
are friendly little acrobats, and I painted this one balancing on
the arched stem of a bellflower in my iris bed.
I’ve heard they can be
tamed to sit in the
palm of your hand, but as yet I haven’t had any success at
this. To set off the
chickadee’s dramatic black cap
and bib, and white underside, I created a soft but colorful background,
with a
big tree in the distance.” -A E
