Sigrid the Star Baby, One-of-a-kind, Original Hand-painted Art Doll by Elizabeth Ruffing
“Sigrid the Star Baby” is making her debut! Sigrid is a newly born star.
Sigrid is just learning about life in the universe.
She looks from one planet to the next, observing moons, and galaxies, comets, and, of course, other stars.
But what Sigrid wants to find, more than anything, is someone to love her.
If you look very closely, you will see one little tear on Sigrid’s cheek.
Sigrid is an original one-of-a-kind work of art, created from my own design and pattern.
Sigrid is entirely handmade. Her body is made of 100% cotton, and painted with acrylic paint. Her bottom is weighted so she can sit nicely while she looks around, and she is also jointed at her shoulders and hips, in case she gets tired and needs to lie down to take a nap.
Sigrid is approximately 8 1/2 inches tall when seated, and approximately 11 inches long when lying down.
Sigrid also comes with a hang tag. It is signed as well. The picture on his hang tag is “Moon and Star”, an original watercolor painting by me, Elizabeth Ruffing. It goes very nicely with Sigrid’s celestial turquoise blue onesie and her lovely gold stars.
The Moon Sings a Lullaby Full of Poppies and Katydids watercolor fantasy art by Elizabeth Ruffing
“The Moon Sings a Lullaby Full of Poppies and Katydids” is an original watercolor painting with pen-and-ink detailing. I am making a limited number of reproductions of this image as a signed giclée print as well, on 8 1/2 by 11 inch art paper.
This is a fantasy piece. I was imagining what kind of lullaby the moon would sing, if the moon could sing, to help people drift off to sleep. I thought of the sounds of katydids, which I’ve always loved to listen to on summer nights. And I thought of the poppy field in The Wizard of Oz, which caused Dorothy and her friends to fall asleep on their way to The Emerald City. This is a picture of the moon singing us all to sleep with a lullaby full of poppies and katydids.
Pink poppies and katydids float all around her, like music coming from her mouth. She wears a crown of paper dolls. Stars glow on her robe.
A decorative floral border encloses the central image.
This is what the 8 1/2 by 11 print might look like framed without a mat. (A mat and frame are not included.)
Welcome to Ruffing’s new blog
This blog is meant to continue where our “In Progress” page left off. I’ve switched to a blog format to allow for greater ease in keeping everyone updated on our most recent paintings, giclées, art quilts, and art dolls.
I’ve also been working on a new web site, The Art of Elizabeth Ruffing. It features my personal studio blog, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at my studio and my latest creations. Please visit and have a look around!
