Yellow Alley Cat Angel Sock Kitten and Fleece Bunnies

I photographed and posted a new Alley Cat Angel Sock Kitten today. This one is yellow with an animal print, kind of like a leopard, only yellow on yellow, with a red fleece heart. She (or he) has soft stuffed fleece wings, and comes with a hang tag that can be personalized. Ten dollars from the adoption of this sock kitten will go to a local cat rescue, Alley Cats and Angels of NC.

I will be posting my new handmade stuffed animal toys in our Ruffing’s shop.

I have been sewing away, trying to make a variety of animals.

I also finished some new fleece Hug Me Bunnies.

And I picked out a limited number of colors for custom bunnies.

Blue Polka-dotted Alley Cat Angel Sock Kitten

I have another Alley Cat Angel sock kitten, a blue one with dark-blue polka-dots, and a bright yellow fleece heart. Once again, ten dollars from the adoption of this sock kitten will go to a local cat rescue, Alley Cats and Angels of NC.

This angel was photographed with our purple ageratum, which blooms for a long while this time of year. Most of the other flowers have gone to sleep until spring.

Here is a view of the fleece wings. My first Alley Cat Angel had sock wings, but I like to work with fleece. So, I switched. I like the soft fuzziness.

I went to photograph more rescue cats and kittens. This is Miracle, who really is a miracle. The rescue has worked so hard to rejuvenate her, after she was very badly malnourished and her growth had been stunted. You can see what she looked like when she was first rescued, and the transformation is incredible. There are earlier photos of Miracle in this album on Facebook.

Miracle is doing great now, and as of the other day, she is just shy of two pounds, which is a huge improvement for her. Here she is playing with a kitten who is approximately her own age. That’s how tiny she is! Now she has a round belly like all healthy kittens should have, and she is playing with toys too. All major turns for her.

Miracle is only in a cage, which is quite ample for her, temporarily, for safety when she is without human supervision, because she has had an atrophied leg, which is improving.

I watched her wrestle with her stuffed animals before getting tired. She settled in with her pink teddy bear for a nap.

Alley Cat Angel, handmade stuffed animal sock cat

Happy Easter, everyone! As I promised yesterday, I am posting a special Alley Cat Angel sock kitten today. All the proceeds from the sale of this kitty will go to a local cat and kitten rescue group, Alley Cats and Angels of NC, less the shipping amount. Update: This Alley Cat Angel has been adopted! Thank you! I will be posting my new handmade stuffed animal toys in our Ruffing’s shop.

My Alley Cat Angel is approximately 16 inches tall from the top of her pointy ears to the bottom of her paws, and approximately 11 inches tall when seated. She is a lovely light blue, with a red fleece heart. All her details are sewn on by hand with embroidery floss.

She has a very sweet expression, fitting an angel.

Her puffy white wings are made from socks too! They are also attached by hand.

Being a kitty, of course she likes to climb trees, but unlike regular kitties, she can fly back down when she wants to.

She comes with a hang tag that can be personalized as you wish. I can add a name for her or “For + a recipient’s name” if she is a gift. Her hang tag comes tied to her with a ribbon. I am happy to include a gift card for anyone wishing to send her as a gift to a separate address.

I plan to make more Alley Cat Angel sock kittens. If you are on Facebook, please “like” our Ruffing’s Facebook page. The proceeds from this first angel will be entirely for the rescue, and a portion of the proceeds for the next couple of Alley Cat Angels will go to animal charities as well. They (and you, if you adopt one) will be helping animals in need.

Christmas Angel

Merry Christmas, everyone! I was thinking about angels this morning and I remembered a quilt block that I had never finished. I think I began it on my birthday, a few years ago. All I remember was that I had it in my mind, at the time, that I would only work on it on a holiday. So here it is, several holidays later! I just finished the central part of the design.

I also found a Christmas tree quilt block, which may have been from one of the quilt classes I used to go to. It was in with a pile of other quilt blocks, which I should probably photograph as well. They never seemed to fit together in any logical way. I could see the angel placing her star on the tree though.

The angel was meant to be part of a larger design, judging from my sketch that I stored with it. At first, I couldn’t remember if it was my own original design or one from a magazine. It didn’t look entirely like my work.

I found a copy of Fons and Porter’s Love of Quilting magazine, from September/October 2005, on my book shelf, and sure enough, my reinterpretation of a design by Lori Smith was inside. The original design was a witch, and I drew an alternate head, added wings, and and extra arm and leg.

I prefer angels to witches, and you may have already guessed from my paintings, such as the one below, which is a detail of Angels’ Kiss.

I hope you are all enjoying your holiday. I am still debating over whether or not to make cookies. In spite of all the sewing I’ve been doing for the holiday rush, that’s what I most felt like doing as soon as I decided to relax. I suppose I should take that as a sign that I am working at something I really like to do. I hope you are spending time on things that you like to do too. Don’t let anyone intimidate you out of doing that. I know I’ve had my share of nay-sayers come along. Don’t listen to them. Surround yourself with supportive people who appreciate you for who you are and what you do. I think I’ve had one of the best years I’ve had in a long time, and I believe a lot of that has to do with taking that advice.

I am thinking about those cookies now, and the snow we might get. Snow would be lovely, in moderation, of course! Have a happy Christmas, one and all.
