Rosa the rose flower fairy baby art doll is a handmade original, one-of-a-kind art doll, handmade and hand painted by artist Elizabeth Ruffing.

This is Rosa. She is a baby rose fairy.

With her pale yellow rose petal hat, Rosa can nap in the garden without being noticed.

She can sit in the flower garden and watch the butterflies, hummingbirds, and bumblebees.

They accept her as one of their own, with her periwinkle butterfly wings.

Rosa has hidden button joints so she can move her arms and legs to express herself.

She has a sweet profile, with little pointed ears.

Rosa has an oak-colored stand that lifts her in the air so she can practice flying, and leaping.

Her doll stand slips in behind her hand-quilted wings.

Rosa the rose flower fairy baby original art doll is entirely handmade by me, Elizabeth Ruffing. Her body is made of 100% cotton, from my own pattern, and is hand painted with acrylic paint. Her bottom is weighted so she can sit nicely.

She has an antique reproduction baby face cast in papier mâché. Her ears and head are hand sculpted from paperclay. Her rose hat is made of fabric flower petals, joined together with paperclay.

Rosa is approximately 7 inches tall when seated, and approximately 9 inches long when lying down. She is approximately 11 inches tall while hovering on her stand. Rosa the rose flower fairy baby is a work of original art is meant for display only.

Rosa the rose flower fairy also comes with a hang tag. It is signed as well. The picture on her hang tag is “The Fairy and the Dove,” printed from my original watercolor painting. The image goes very nicely with Rosa’s mauve onesie, her yellow buttons, her pale yellow rose petals, and the butter-colored spots on her wings.

Rosa the Original Baby Rose Flower Fairy Art Doll and Fairy Watercolors

Rosa the original baby rose flower fairy art doll is finished!

I cast Rosa’s antique reproduction baby face using liquid papier mâché. I sculpted her head and ears with paperclay. I made the pattern for her body, and sewed it in 100% cotton cloth. I quilted her periwinkle butterfly wings by hand, and hand painted her with with acrylic paint. She will is sealed with matte varnish for protection.

I took my color inspiration for Rosa rose flower fairy art from my watercolor paintings, “The Fairy and the Dove” and “Fairies and Butterflies,” and chose a pretty soft orchid color for her onesie. I added peaceful blue and purple and yellow to her wings.

More progress on my fairy original art dolls

I’ve made some more progress on my flower baby fairies, and my Spring fairy, who may turn into a Summer fairy as time goes by. I made her a skirt today, and tried Wonder-Under for the first time to fuse fabric layers together before I cut out individual petal shapes for the skirt.

I’m going to paint the “petals” of the skirt so they will compliment the pastel green of the fabric petals around her head. I also permanently attached her wings so her stand can be inserted in the opening between her wings and her body. This way I no longer have to tape her to a stand, which will allow me to paint her. She needs a little more paperclay as well.

The painting on the babies is already under way. I will add a lighter layer of color over their onesies to give more detail. I will have to plan butterfly wings for all three. I’ve already hand quilted the wings on each one.

I have also been experimenting with mini plaques. I have mounted reproductions of my original watercolor paintings on hand painted 6 by 6 by 3/4 inch solid poplar wood. I wanted little companion pieces of art to offer with my fairy dolls and I wanted to make them so none would need a frame. These will have hangers on the back. I think all the pastel colors will look lovely together.

Making these up reminded me that I have unfinished paintings that would look great in this format. I am fishing out my reference drawings and hoping to get those projects organized. It amazes me where I find things! I often have no idea what is in those piles on my desks and tables! Lots of good ideas just waiting for me to find the time.

Daphne, Original One-of-a-kind Tabby Cat Folk Art Doll by Max Bailey

Daphne charms everyone she meets.

With her sweet little tabby cat face, and her big trusting yellow-green eyes, she has an air of total innocence.

She’s shy and unassuming, but she will happily raise her paw to show you her favorite glass fish bracelet.

Watch out for Daphne, or she’ll steal your heart away.

Daphne is an original one-of-a-kind work of art, made from 100% cotton fabric which is sewn, stuffed, and completely hand-painted with acrylic paints. She is 13 inches tall.

I sculpted the front of her face from paper clay, which I smoothed into the fabric. Her whiskers are made from stiffened pearl cotton, threaded through the clay before it dried.

Her arms are button-jointed, and her paws are needle-sculpted. I painted her fur in a multitude of tabby colors…silver gray, buff, ivory, gold, and black.

Her pinafore is made from colorful fabric striped in orange, gold, purple, rose, and magenta. I painted her collar and cuffs to match the magenta stripe, and her tights to match the purple stripe. Her kitty feet are covered with ivory high-button shoes that have decorative toes and gold buttons.

Daphne is signed and dated, and sealed with matte varnish for protection and preservation.

Daphne can sit upright all by herself. Her tail supports her very nicely. She can also sit on a chair, or stand with a doll stand. (Chair and doll stand not included.) Daphne can even sit on the couch. She’s very good at watching TV.
