Some frost and a whole lot of work later

When I opened my curtains this morning, and saw the soft, white light coming in, I was reminded of winter up north, when it has just snowed. It made me feel so happy. It wasn’t snow though, just frost, but it was so pretty that I went outside in my pajamas to take a picture.

This doesn’t really convey how the grassy lawns all faded to white in the distance, but you can imagine it 🙂

And…we FINALLY finished updating our online doll gallery! All of the currently available dolls now have web pages, and some of the adopted dolls do too. At least every doll on the page has a link now, and what a big page! I will, at some point, have to separate the dolls into categories rather than have a page that scrolls into infinity, but, for now, we are so relieved to have it up to date.

Of course, I still have to fix all the print pages up. It seems to be a never-ending job. Just looking at the sheer size of the doll gallery, I am reminded that I need to focus on what I have already started and not take on more than I can handle. My current plan is to focus on making original, one-of-a-kind folk art dolls and paintings, and consolidate what we have available for sale on the Ruffing’s site, instead of all the EBaying and Etsying, not to mention the MySpacing and whatever mulitude of other sites I have been trying to cover. I will try to finish the play dolls/toys I have started, but I think I will be doing those for more fun in the future. I’ll see what I have time for without making myself crazy with too many projects.

Floradora, Original One-of-a-kind White Persian Folk Art Cat Doll Figurine by Max Bailey

My name is Floradora, and I am a white Persian kitten.

Mama says I look just like the puffy little white clouds you see in the sky on a nice summer day.

This morning Mama told me not to get my dress dirty and not to show my petticoats.

She says it’s not at all ladylike for little girls to show their petticoats. “Floradora”, she says, “If petticoats were meant to be seen, they’d be worn over your dress instead of under it.”

But my petticoat is really pretty. It’s the color of roses, and it has a big ruffle with yellow polka dots. It’s so pretty I have to show it to you. It’s not like I’m showing somebody my bloomers!

My dress is okay too. It’s blue and has pink daisies that go all around the top in a circle, and a ruffle with a yellow border. If there was a contest though, my polka dot petticoat would win. That’s for sure!

Max Bailey sculpted me and my wonderful petticoat from paperclay, and made my cute little whiskers from stiffened cotton thread. I’m completely hand painted with acrylic paints.

I’m a one-of-a-kind work of art, and am made for display only. Max never uses molds in his work, so there’s never going to be anybody else like me.

I’m signed and dated, and sealed with matte varnish for protection and preservation. I rest firmly on a turned wooden base that is stained and sealed in golden oak, and I’m 7 and 1/4 inches tall. I come with a hang tag, a certificate of authenticity, and a copy of my story.

The Fairy and The Dove watercolor art by Elizabeth Ruffing

“The Fairy and The Dove” is an original watercolor painting. I am making a limited number of reproductions of this image as a signed giclée print as well, on 8 1/2 by 11 inch art paper.

A fairy stands in a field full of iris in shades of purple and yellow, holding a baby dove in her hands. She will soon put him back in his nest. The wind is blowing around her, and the sunlight is showing between the leaves in the trees behind her. I’ve added a border of pink day lilies all pointing inward to enclose the scene.

This is what the 8 1/2 by 11 print might look like framed without a mat. (A mat and frame are not included.)

Kelly the Jack Russell Terrier, Original One-of-a-kind Folk Art Dog Doll Figurine by Max Bailey

Kelly has so many admirers, she barely has time to sit down before the doorbell rings again.

One brings her a box of doggie candy. One calls to give her a brand new red ball. One brings her a bouquet of pink roses.

She graciously thanks each and every one of them.

Kelly likes the roses so much she pins one to her ruffled collar, right in front.

She sighs and goes back to watching her soap operas.

Kelly wears a pale green dress with a beautiful teal collar and cuffs edged in gold. The dress has a wide sash that ties in a big bow at the back. Tiers of white petticoats can be seen below her dress.

Kelly is an original one-of-a-kind work of art, and she is meant for display only. No molds are ever used in my work. She and her rose bouquet are hand sculpted from paperclay, and entirely hand painted using acrylic paints.

Kelly stands 5 and 3/4 inches tall.
